This Hunger creates new experiences for all of us. Because of all this freely available data feasts, we now have a larger Hunger to acquire information. Our parents cannot relate to this feeling of ours, this mood we’re constantly in. They were raised in the era of direct 1:1 demand, of monetary value granting delayed gratifications. They cannot understand this experience we have whenever we are sitting in front of our computer with the world, and all of its associated data feasts, at our fingertips.

Hunger, ruling all of us at a subconscious level. We crave things in order to sustain our minds, not our bodies. The demand is no longer linear, but has expanded into a higher dimension like the tessaract or Klein bottle. And just like the tessaract or Klein bottle, we too must expand our understanding of this driving force not literally, not forward or onward, but throughout.

This reinvented concept of demand, I will call Hunger. We experience Hunger all the time. It’s the reason (for some of us) we go to school, the reason we subscribe to feeds, and the reason we have P2P file sharing communities. Think about that for a second. Entire communities have formed to more efficiently satiate this Hunger. With phenomena like this occurring, the concept of Hunger is all the more important.

Did you ever notice the demand you had to read an online article pertaining to your interests? How about the moment you had to have the song you just heard on Pandora? For these things, there are instantly gratifying hyperlinks that lead to your prospective garden of Eden. This is not the same thing as Apple’s iStore or the Kindle because they are still stuck in the old ways of monetary interactions, delayed rewards.

People nowadays will travel around the world in order to satiate this info hunger. They are ravenous, hungry minds craving a data feast. The concept of demand needs to be reinvented in order to fit in our 21st century environment. The rules that applied before no longer constitute the system in play now. This new concept needs to be painted further in order to evolve the ancient into the modern.

This concept of demand works fine for things like bread, shoes, mp3 players, etc. But what of our demand for intellectual fulfillment? I crave a news article on the status of whaling rights the same that I do a five dollar foot long. I need to have a particular song that I heard on someone’s facebook, and they have a hyperlink there for me to download it, an instant gratification link.

There is a Hunger within all of us. Not in the literal sense of wanting more food, but a need to acquire data, knowledge, compositions. A while ago, this concept would flow with the idea of economic demand. The people’s desire to acquire things in a market was mapped out with a demand curve. This curve shows the various levels of demand that people have for different products and different prices.

“Price elasticity of demand is the quantitative measure of consumer behavior that indicates the quantity of demand of a product or service depending on its increase or decrease in price.”
